Nancy offers fun and enjoyable classes in Broken Plate Mosaic, Furniture Painting, Painted Floor Cloth and Glass Tile Mosaic. These classes are held in a relaxing and comfortable garden on the west side of Santa Cruz. You can call for more information or sign-up for classes online!

About the classes:

Broken Plate Mosaic "Pique Assiette" Class

Broken plate mosaic is a hands on opportunity to recycle broken plates and tiles. "Pique assiette" can be applied to many surfaces to create a nostalgic, whimsical and colorful piece of functional art.

Spend a relaxing and creative afternoon making a piece for yourself or another. The random placement of plates, tiles and found objects in a mosaic creates a pattern that is truly a personal expression!

Broken Plate Mosaic Workshop
In this class you will be able to complete one of the following projects: Stepping Stone, Mirror Frame or Address/Name Plaque.

Super Broken Plate Mosaic Workshop

This class can be your first experience in mosaic art or a chance to increase your skills. At your own pace, you may complete 1 or 2 projects. The choice of ideas will include: terra cotta flower pot, stepping stone, wooden mirror frame, wall plaque or table top bird bath. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn the 3-D application of objects and create custom colored grout. A $15 material fee is payable at the first class.

Furniture Painting Workshop

What to bring to the workshop:

• A small piece of furniture that you will transform in one day!
  (bare wood or previously painted)
• Comfortable, layered clothing. We will be working in a garden studio.
• A sack lunch - snacks and beverages will be provided.

Some of the techniques will include crackle finish, color washes, verdi gris, fauz marbleizing, antique glazing, and other folk art painting styles.

Class outline:

• Morning Workshop: Furniture preparation including cleaning and priming.
  
• Mid-morning Workshop: 1.) Paint technique demonstrations. 2.) Sample boards prepared in class.
  
• Lunch Break: Share ideas along with reference materials.
  
• Afternoon: Energized and ready to create a fun and functional piece of furniture, utilizing techniques that will reflect YOUR style.

Class Time: 10:00 am - 5:00 p.m.
Dates: Offered various Saturdays throughout the month, beginning in April 2003. View the schedule of classes for specific dates.
Class Fee: $70 plus $15 material fee which includes all paints, written instructions and sample boards.

Glass Tile Mosaic Workshop

The very popular glass tile mosaics will be the medium we work with in this entry level class. We will decorate a wall plaque suitable for indoor or outdoor use. Rich jewel tone and primary color 1" sq. glass tiles will be used to create a design chosen from traditional patterns that are available in class, or you may bring your own design. We will transfer the pattern to the plaque and utilize the direct method of tile application. Little or no tile cutting will be required as you learn the basic techniques used in old world mosaic art.
